Rams Show Fight Against Golden Sierra

The Rio Vista Varsity Rams came out swinging on Tuesday, drawing first blood before Golden Sierra pulled away for a 17-7 victory in a competitive matchup between the two teams.

Rio Vista wasted no time getting on the board. Samiah Holley delivered an RBI single in the top of the first inning, giving the Rams the early lead and setting an energetic tone for the game.

Golden Sierra responded in the bottom of the first, stringing together several productive at-bats to take a 4-1 lead. Tessa Hill drilled a two-run double, Sophie Trahan drew a walk to bring home a run, and Marina Howell added an RBI double to cap the inning.

Golden Sierra continued to build their lead in the second and third innings, taking advantage of walks and aggressive baserunning. Howell stole home in the second, and Neveah Peoples came through with a key run in the third. Golden Sierra finished the game with an impressive 11 stolen bases and 12 walks, keeping constant pressure on the Rio Vista defense.

Despite the final score, Rio Vista had plenty of reasons to feel good about their performance at the plate. Six Rams recorded hits on the day — Holley, Taylor Bledsoe, Aaliyah Kittlings, Caleigh Bloesch, Jalen Medders, and Stella Lunsford all contributed offensively. Holley and Bledsoe each drove in two runs, and the Rams drew five walks to show patience against Golden Sierra's pitching.

Camryn Perkins took the circle for Rio Vista and worked four full innings, facing a relentless Golden Sierra lineup that accumulated 12 walks on the afternoon. For Golden Sierra, Mary Nicole Turner earned the win, tossing three innings and allowing six hits and six runs, while striking out two.

Golden Sierra's Hill was the standout offensive performer, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs from her shortstop spot in the lineup. Howell added two hits in two at-bats, and Peoples and Turner each drew three walks to pace the Golden Sierra offense.

The Rams will have a quick chance to bounce back — Rio Vista hosts Golden Sierra again on Thursday at home. With the experience from Tuesday's game behind them, the Rams will be ready to compete.
